Regular/Domestic Cleaning
When you hire professional house cleaners for a “regular house cleaning,” this is going to include the things you would do on a weekly basis. A regular clean is designed to help maintain a certain level of cleanliness around your house.
When you invest in a regular clean (which will be what you typically receive) the home cleaner will do some of the following things:
- Tidying up the house
- Vacuuming and mopping your floors
- Cleaning the bathrooms – toilet, bath, mirror, sink, etc.
- Cleaning the kitchen – wiping surfaces, outside of appliances, taking out trash, etc.
Regular/Domestic Cleaning takes in average 2-5 hours. For houses 5+ bedrooms can take up to 8 hours. Find a company that has cleaning teams from 2 to at least 4 people, then 8 hours will end up as 2 hours clean with 4 cleaners working together.
One-off Deep Cleaning
Now that you know what a regular cleaning entails, it’s time to discuss a deep clean. Deep cleaning is something you are likely going to need to invest in when you first hire a cleaning service. While deep cleaning is more expensive than regular cleaning, it also only needs to be done every six months, or so.
A deep cleaning service will remove the deep dirt and grime in your home. It will cover the areas that aren’t typically covered in a regular cleaning service.
Some of the services provided when you hire a home cleaning service for a deep clean include:
1. Remove scale and soap scum from shower heads, taps, kitchen tiles, bathroom tiles, etc.
2. Clean behind appliances such as the oven, washing machine and cut through the grime that often builds up
3. Deep and complete dusting including the baseboards and doors in all rooms
4. Washing the home’s interior windows if required
5. Patio doors cleaning and window frames cleaning
6. The outside of the oven cleaning
As you can see, a deep cleaning is much more thorough than a regular cleaning service. This is the main reason that you pay more when you hire the professionals. It also takes longer to complete.
One-off Deep Cleaning usually takes double time of regular cleaning. So it might take 4-8 hours in average. 5+ bedrooms homes might take up to 13-16 hours. Again, ask for a cleaning team instead of one cleaner. For example 16 hours deep clean can take only 3 hours 20 min with a crew of 5 professionals.
Remember, you pay per hour, not per cleaner. So don’t be terrified if you hear that you have been allocated with 4-6 cleaners for your clean. Price will be not change from the number of cleaners. Otherwise it is a scam.
Tidy (average time: 1hour)
A tidy means making things look neat. This generally consists of changing rubbish bins, picking up clothes and toys from the floor, wiping all surfaces from top to bottom, doing the dishes and so on.
Depending on the size of your home, the typical tidy will take 45mins – 1hr.
One-off clean usually doesn’t include tiding.
Weekly vs one-off house cleaning (average: 3–5 hours)
We know every house is different, but as a general rule of thumb: each bedroom you have will mean an extra hour of cleaning.
For example a 2 bedroom home will require 2hrs of domestic cleaning, a 3 bedroom home will need 3 hrs and so on.
A domestic clean includes general cleaning, wiping of surfaces, dusting, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.
Detailed one-off cleaning like Spring Clean will usually take about 50% more time than a domestic clean. For example, a 2 bedroom home will require 3-4 hours of time for detailed cleaning.
Laundry and changing linen (average: 1–2 hours)
Cleaning laundry room might take 1-2 hours depends on the size and condition.
Changing linen can take up to 30 mins for 4 beds and making beds usually take up to 10-15 mins per bed.
One-off clean usually doesn’t include changing linen.
