Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar
  • 3/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide 
  • 1 teaspoon unscented liquid Castile soap 
  • 10 drops of tea tree oil 
  • 20 drops of lavender essential oil 

Add these ingredients to a spray bottle, then shake it well before use. When removing mildew and soap build-up, spray first, then sprinkle on baking soda and scrub with a sponge.

For example, the stain remover recipe below is effective on protein-based stains like blood, bodily fluids, dairy products, baby formula, eggs, and baby food.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of table salt
  • also 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of borax powder 

Mix ingredients into a paste and apply to the stained area. Let it dry for 24 hours and vacuum. The paste kills bacteria and acts as a deodoriser as it removes the stain. After vacuuming, clean the area with water. Blot well with a clean, dry white cloth.

Dip a white cloth into these homemade carpet cleaners for synthetic rugs and apply to the stain area.

  • Detergent solution: Mix ¼ teaspoon of a translucent liquid dishwashing detergent into one cup of warm water
  • Vinegar solution: Mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of water
  • Solvent solution: Use an oil solvent or non-acetone nail polish remover

Note: Always test in an inconspicuous spot first.

Place these natural fiber carpet cleaning solutions (except the solvent) in spray bottles and apply onto the stain.

  • Detergent solution: Mix one teaspoon of translucent liquid dishwashing detergent into 1 cup of warm water
  • Vinegar solution: Mix ¼ cup of white vinegar with ¼ cup of water
  • Ammonia solution: Mix one tablespoon of clear household ammonia with ½ cup of warm water
  • Solvent solution: Same as for synthetic carpets: use an oil solvent or non-acetone nail polish remover

Note: Always test in an inconspicuous spot first.

How to Remove Food and Drink Stains from Carpets

For removing wine, coffee, tea, chocolate, milk, beer, tomato sauce, ketchup, berries, hard candy, juice, soda stains.

  1. Dip a white cloth into the homemade detergent solution for synthetic carpets (see above) and spread repeatedly. Then press the cloth on the spot and hold it for a few seconds. Wait 15 minutes (to break down the stain), then soak up the excess liquid with a dry white cloth.
  2. Dip a cloth into the vinegar solution for synthetic carpets (see above) and spread it repeatedly. Press the cloth on the spot for a few seconds. Wait another 15 minutes. (Do not miss this step, because white vinegar removes residual detergent, which will attract dirt if left in the carpet.)
  3. Rinse by blotting with a cloth soaked in warm water. Wait until the carpet fully dry. For hard stains, place white paper towels over the stain after step 2, then put a baking dish on top for 15 minutes.
  4. If you see the stain lightening, repeat these steps until it is gone.

Note: Always test in an inconspicuous spot first.

Follow the steps below to treat coffee, beer, and tea stains.

Spray the stain with the homemade detergent solution for natural fiber carpets, then remove wetness with a dry white cloth.

  1. Spray stains with vinegar solution for natural fiber carpets, then blot with a dry and clean white cloth.
  2. Then, Spray stains with detergent solution for natural fiber carpets, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  3. Spray stains with warm water, then blot with a dry white cloth.

Follow steps 1 to 3 (above), with one additionBefore applying the vinegar solution in step 2, spray the stain with the ammonia solution for natural fiber carpets (see above), then blot with a dry white cloth.

To remove ketchup and tomato sauce stains:

Follow steps 1 to 3 (above), but substitute the ammonia solution for the vinegar solution in step 2.

  2. Rinse by blotting with a white cloth soaked in lukewarm water

  4. If you can see that the stain is getting lighter, repeat until the stain is removed.

  1. Apply a small amount of solvent to a white cloth, then blot.
  2. Spray the stain with detergent solution, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  3. Spray the stain with warm water, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  4. Wait until the carpet completely dry.
  5. If stains are getting lighter, repeat these steps until it is gone.

  4. Wait one hour or until the carpet dries completely.
  5. Repeat the first three steps until the stain is gone.

  1. Spray the stain with detergent solution for natural fiber carpets, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  2. Then Spray the stain with ammonia solution for natural fiber carpets, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  3. Spray the stain with vinegar solution for natural fiber carpets, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  4. Reapply the detergent solution, then blot with a dry white cloth.
  5. Spray the stain with lukewarm water, then blot with a dry white cloth.

Recipe #1:

  • Baking soda (3 tablespoons)
  • Water (1.5 tablespoons)

Mix together baking soda and water. Apply to oven, let sit for 20 minutes, wipe clean.

Recipe #2:

  • 3 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 tablespoon of dishwashing soap

Mix baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap. Apply to oven, let it sit for 20 minutes, then wipe clean.

Homemade Natural Makeup Brush Cleaner

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of witch hazel 
  • 2 tsp of baby mild castile soap 
  • 1 tsp skin-nourishing oil like almond or olive oil (optional)
  • 1 cup distilled water

Instructions

  1. In a bottle or mason jar, combine all the ingredients in the order listed (the recipe). Shake the bottle. This solution may be used multiple times to clean brushes. Store the mixture in the fridge.
  2. Combine as much of the mixture needed in a bowlAdd your makeup brushes to the mixture. I like to swish the brushes back in forth in the mixture and then let them soak for a few minutes. The mixture will go from clear to a dirty makeup mixture quickly. After a few minutes, remove the brushes, dump the solution, and rinse the brushes under the water.
  3. Let the brushes rest on a towel to dry. Repeat few times a month to keep your brushes clean.
